Introduction:
Interior design is about striking a balance between different elements to achieve a harmonious and aesthetic look. For those without experience, combining modern and old interior design styles can seem like a daunting task. However, with a few tips and tricks, anyone can create a stunning and unique space that perfectly combines old and new elements.
This article is primarily for people who have little or no experience in furnishing a room with old and new objects and do not want to furnish the entire room with antique or vintage objects (immediately).
Choose a neutral colour palette: In order for the two styles to harmonise, it is important to choose a neutral colour palette that serves as a neutral base. Neutral colours such as white, beige and grey help to create a seamless transition between vintage and modern pieces.
Start with a special piece: choose a vintage piece, e.g. a vintage armchair or chandelier, that will serve as an eye-catcher in the room. This piece should be the focal point and set the tone for the rest of the design.
Keep vintage and modern elements in balance: To achieve a perfect balance, use vintage pieces sparingly and modern elements generously. This way, the vintage pieces will stand out and the modern elements will give the room a modern flair.
Mix vintage and modern textures: Combining vintage and modern textures can create a visually interesting space. For example, combine a vintage rug with a modern sofa or a vintage console table with modern table lamps.
Add unique details: Use unique details to link the two styles. For example, use vintage hardware on modern cabinets or add vintage artwork / photographs on a modern wall.
Create harmony through lighting: Lighting plays a crucial role in interior design and the right lighting can help create harmony between vintage and modern elements. Combine vintage and modern lighting fixtures, e.g. a vintage chandelier with modern wall sconces or table lamps.
Conclusion:
Mixing modern and vintage interior styles can seem daunting, but with these tips and tricks, anyone can create a stunning and unique space. The most important thing is to choose a neutral colour palette, start with a highlight, balance vintage and modern elements, mix vintage and modern textures, add unique details and create harmony through lighting. With these tips, you can achieve a perfect blend of old and new and create a space that reflects your personal style.
